In December 2009, Private joint-stock company TAS Insurance Group (TAS IG (private)) launched a health care and related expenses insurance program for non-residents during their stay (trip) in Ukraine. The new insurance product is a complex offer and is based on three insurance rules: medical expenses (in the event of emergency medical services), voluntary medical insurance and accident insurance.

The product is comprised of three effective programs.

Program A provides for emergency medical services only: outpatient care, dental care, emergency units, including patient’s delivery to hospital. Sum insuredAmount of insurance: UAH 2,000; UAH 5,000; and UAH 10,000.

Program B covers expenses for emergency medical aid and repatriation (if a person dies or needs transportation to his/her native country from Ukraine for medical reasons), and extra expenses for an accompanying person (medical officer) in case of occurrence of an insured event when the policy is in effect. The sum insured amount of insurance under this program makes up UAH 30,000; UAH 50,000; and UAH 100,000, depending on the country, from which a non-resident has arrived to Ukraine.

Program C is also a complex offer and it includes options available in Programs A and B. An extra option is voluntary medical insurance. The Program C provides that the insurer shall reimburse all expenses of an insured for not only emergency medical aid, but also for a further required outpatient treatment within the specified limits of an insured amountsum, which covers diagnostic, treatment and purchase of drugs. The sum insured amount of insurance is UAH 200,000 and UAH 300,000. UAH 50,000 of the amount is allocated for voluntary medical insurance, in particular, outpatient treatment.

An insured is entitled to include an accident insurance option within a specific insured sumamount for each of the three programs.

The health care and related expenses insurance program for non-residents during a stay (trip) in Ukraine is designed for foreign citizens who have arrived in our country to study at a higher education institution, employment, trip, tourism, recreation, etc. Besides, such an insurance policy is obligatory for non-residents who have come to Ukraine for a long stay (more than 3 months) and, thus, have to pass a special registration for foreign citizens.

“This insurance product of TAS IG (private) differs from the previous offer in that it is based on a new license for general obligatory medical insurance obtained recently by our Company. The license enables us to insure non-residents directly during their registration procedure upon arriving to Ukraine. Such insurance policies are acknowledged in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. This type of insurance has been offered by two Ukrainian companies so far. TAS IG (private) will be the third insurance company to offer this service. We hope that our Company will be leader in this type of insurance,” First Deputy Chairman of the Board of TAS IG (private) Artur Shaimukhametov said.

Such insurance policies are of demand at educational institutions, places of registration of non-residents in Ukraine, tour agencies and by employers wherein non-residents work.
